Autograph’s #SenseOfBelonging project celebrates and documents the many perspectives and experiences of self, identity and community life in our diverse borough - and we are inviting you to join in!

#SenseOfBelonging is a public art project created by young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds. Over the last year, they have been taking photographs and making films, starting conversations and sharing stories from people in our locality.

Now we are inviting you to send us your images that respond to the theme ‘My Hackney Selfie’. This could include your photographs, videos or other art forms like collage and painting. It could be an image of something you have already created, a new work or snaps from your family album. You definitely don’t need to own a fancy camera or be a professional artist to take part! 

Send us your photographs by 10am on Monday 12 September 2022, and our panel of judges will select their favourites to feature on Autograph's website and social media as part of the #SenseOfBelonging project.

Prizes Details: 

A panel of Autograph staff, artists and partners will choose their favourite images, which will then be featured on Autograph's website and social media as part of the #SenseOfBelonging project. We will contact you to let you know if your image has been selected.

RAISE YOUR ZINE! - Call for photographers

RAISE YOUR ZINE! is the first call developed by THE DOCKS in co-production with Varco srls and the collaboration of Passepartout Photo Prize.

THE DOCKS aims to support the development of editorial projects by talented photographers from all over the world. The award will be granted for the production of a photographic fanzine and the opportunity to exhibit the editorial work produced during the days of the RAISE YOUR ZINE! Festival expected in Naples on June 3rd-4th-5th, 2022.

The winner of the RAISE YOUR ZINE! will be chosen by the unquestionable vote of the jury composed by: 

Paolo Ciregia, visual artist; Carlotta De Sanctis, post-doctoral researcher, IUAV University of Venice; Michela Fabbrocino, photography teacher, Academy of Fine Arts, Naples; Cristina Ferraiuolo, founder and curator of Spot home gallery, Naples; Tommaso Parrillo, publisher and founder of Witty Books; Michele Sibiloni, photographer and director of photography; Passepartout Photo Prize and THE DOCKS.

BiF Prize ‘20: Award for unconventional photographers

BiF Prize is an annual international photo contest that aims to support authors who think outside the box of traditional standards and search for new forms of storytelling. 

 

Photographers all over the world are welcomed to participate. The choice of theme is unrestricted.

Prize Summary: 
The first prize is €2 000.
Prizes Details: 

— The main winner will receive a €2 000 prize. 

— Ten best projects determined by the judges will be published on Bird in Flight. 

— A special prize in the nomination of the Samsung Readers' Choice Award (its winner will be determined by open voting) is a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra smartphone.

— Another 25 applicants will receive a portfolio review by the jury. The portfolio review will be held online.

Photography Now 2020 - The Center for Photography at Woodstock

Photography Now is CPW’s annual call to discover the most compelling photography projects in the US and beyond. This call is juried by a different leading curator every year. The Director’s Purchase Prize is awarded to one individual, whose work is purchased by CPW for inclusion in CPW’s Permanent Print Collection.

Photography Now 2020 JUROR: Andy Adams

Andy Adams is a culture producer and digital director with a passion for visual media + creative communications. Since 2004, he has consulted arts organizations and cultural institutions that use the Internet to engage, inspire, and educate the public.

Adams is a pioneer in the field of online art exhibition and has collaborated with the RISD Museum of Art, the Australian Centre for Photography, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and numerous other organizations. He is the Director of FlakPhoto Projects, a web-based digital/arts lab focused on promoting photography in all of its forms.

In his spare time, he hosts the FlakPhoto Network, a 16,000-member online community focused on conversations about visual/media culture. Find him on Instagram @FlakPhoto.

We here at SIILK GALLERY are looking for photographers from all walks of life from around the world for our new 100sqm gallery space opening in March 2020.

After the success of our current Gallery space we are opening the permanent home for Siilk. The place is bigger, better, brighter and more bad ass.

Each exhibition will consist of a 4 week running program with an opening night and pop up events throughout the month at out gallery in the heart of Athens. Your works will also be featured in our online zine - www.siilkgallery.com & will do a feature / interview with you. Exhibitions have been featured in magazines here in Athens such as Athens Voice, Lifo, Ozon Magazine, 020 & Frapress.

Info about the gallery:

Our gallery is situated in the Exarchia / Neapoli area of Athens, Greece on a hip street “Askipilou”. The area is the center of art and culture in Athens, it has a thriving arts scene and community. Exarchia has an edgy alternative vibe, its streets decorated with politically charged murals and lined with anarchist bookshops and stores selling rare vinyl and vintage antiques. Bars and clubs host live music, including rembetika, jazz and punk acts. For night life and the arts, entertainment and contemporary culture it is the place to be in Athens, Greece.

The Gallery is an open plan 100sqm space with a small bar, library and chill area and small photography studio / projection room.

It is in a very central location with access from a main road, it has lots of natural light and double glass frontage so it makes for a very bright exhibiting space.

How the exhibits work:

At Silk Gallery we offer 3m of wall space for a 1 month (4 week) exhibition. You work will be curated alongside another 3/4 photographers from around the world to exhibit at our space. We will have an opening evening for each exhibition with press attendees, we will have private viewings as well as local and international coverage of each event event.

All works will be available for sale in the gallery and via the website online.

The exhibition program includes:

4 week exhibition at Silk Gallery
Private view/press viewings and other publicity
Design and printing of invitations, mail out and social media invites
Curation & Installation of works
Photography of work / installation to be featured online and in press
Featured work & artist information on www.siilkgallery.com and social medias
Opening event with music and drinks sponsor
Pop up events throughout the month at the gallery space

Payment & Pricing:

The price per 3m wall space is €275 for 4 weeks exhibition as well as having work featured in the online alongside and interview and shared on social media platforms and in local press. Shared with magazines, press and blogs as part of the press release.

We take 0% commission on works sold.

If you are unable to attend the opening - works can either be delivered to Asklipiou 73, Athens, 114 71, Greece.

We can also organize printing in house and if you are looking for external funding we are happy to send an invitation after confirmation of exhibiting to support any applications.

New Talents - Take part in a photography exhibition in Berlin!

For the final exhibition of the year, we invite you to share what is at the very heart of your practice as a photographer. For this special occasion, we decided to change the rules and keep the theme open: we want you to show us what you have the most talent for. We would like to discover what really matters to you and intrinsically moves you in your quest for images. Let it be experimental, documentary, portrait, travel or any other approach to photography - show us your talent by revealing what is at the heart of YOUR work. This call is open for single images as well as series - all themes, techniques and styles are welcome. Inspire us by sharing what you are most passionate about!

The selected artists will take part in a collective exhibition at the gallery "Tête" in Berlin in December 2019.
