Intertwining

Intertwining is an artist residency that aims to promote the creation of specific art using organic materials from the surrounding rural/ countryside of Anima. Those same art pieces will be made with the intention and quality for gallery display with the objective of bringing the rural to the city, thus emphasising the importance of a healthy countryside in order to experience a healthy urban city life.

The Land is a Library

The land and its animal inhabitants have always been integral to the creation of books: parchment produced from the skin of calves, tree pulp for paper, vegetable charcoal into ink... If one were to make books localized materially and conceptually around Anima Casa, what might that look like? How can a kiln, burning donkey shit, produce a book? Are the black embers floating through the sunset from nearby burning sugar kane just a series of punctuation marks waiting to find their pages? RESIDENCY 108 spring session

Residency 108 invites emerging and established artists, writers and thinkers of all disciplines to immerse themselves in their creative practice. We particularly welcome those who work with nature, ecology and the installation of temporary outdoor land-art works. The residency is free apart from the cost of travel and material expenses which must be assumed by the individual. 

Open call for artists for online exhibition: Digital U

For this year’s Digital U micro-commission, Art Gene welcomes applications from artists and creatives to exhibit projects that explore the collision of art and the environment in the digital age, selected by Digital U returning Guest Curator Alejandro Ball. 

Six artists will be given the opportunity to exhibit on Art Gene’s online exhibition space Digital U-Hang. The exhibitions will be posted online between October 2019 – March 2020 and will remain online as part of Art Gene’s archive of projects.
