Guest Room: David Campany

Guest Room aims to spark collaboration. David Campany, teacher at the University of Westminster London and Curator at Large for the International Center of Photography in New York, has chosen to collaborate with Taous Dahmani, who is a London-based French, British and Algerian art historian, writer and curator specializing in photography.

Together, they have developed the following framework for your submissions: The "Meanwhile".

The Absurd

“If the world were clear, art would not exist.” - Albert Camus. While the term commonly refers to a kind of dry, ironic situation, The Absurd has a rich philosophical tradition most closely associated with the writings of Albert Camus. In his essay The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus says that “one must imagine Sisyphus happy,” but this is no simple task. What are we to do with the question of life’s meaning, especially in the face of its endless unanswerability? In modern times, we experience echoes of the loop Sisyphus is stuck in, from the eternal cycle of war, pestilence, and death; how do you find purpose and escape the repetitions of reality where meaning escapes our grasp, and The Absurd is all that remains?

A photographic diptych is a work of art that consists of two photographs that are arranged side by side. Diptychs can convey a story by connecting seemingly unrelated images. The use of two photographs side by side can allow the photographer to experiment with different compositions and to create a sense of balance or symmetry. The two images in a diptych can represent duality or opposites. They allow the photographer to explore different themes, narratives, compositions, and contrasts.

AAP Magazine 30 Shadows

Our 30th printed issue of AAP Magazine will feature the best projects showcasing the theme "SHADOWS".

Mysterious, magical, intense, timeless, sometimes nostalgic... mastering the shadows in photography is an art in itself. It is a story in its own right, a unique form of expression.

Send us a cohesive body of work or portfolio - capturing the poetry and the power of shadows! The subject is totally up to you. Your photos can be in color or black and white, and be landscape, portraiture, street photography or any other genre. Any capture method or process, whether digital or analog, including monochromatic toning, is welcome.

NYC4PA Call for Entry - WATER 2023

“Water under the bridge”, “Water water everywhere”

So many sayings reference water, songs as well.  Water, of late a critical concern in our environment, is so very central to much of our lives. In addition, it is beautiful to photograph. This call is about how you, the photographer, capture water. Is it a thundering waterfall? Is it glistening droplets from a puppy shaking itself off, a surfer caught in the curl, or a reflection in a city pond? Maybe you used a slow shutter to create the soft image of flowing water in a stream. Teardrops, raindrops, dew drops .... ice floes, waterfalls, rapids and serene lakes. The list goes on. Black and white, color, abstract - all 2D mediums are welcome.
