Biography of a Traveler: Exhibition in Italy

Primo Piano LivinGallery

is pleased to present the contemporary art exhibition titled BIOGRAPHY OF A TRAVELER: Roots, Loss and Landings

Curated by Dores Sacquegna

The exhibition will be on display from November 16 to 30, 2024 at the Palmieri Foundation in Lecce.

If there is an object capable of representing travel, it is indeed a suitcase. Because it is travel, freedom, but also detachment or exile. Two aspects that art has told in so many different ways especially in recent years, now that the classic suitcase, that square parallelepiped with a handle, no longer exists.

OPEN CALL | Crossing Over: Women Artists, Abstraction, and Travel in Postwar Rome (1950s-1970s)

Thinking through the nature of individual artistic trajectories, as well as the geopolitical circumstances determining artistic production in Italy of the time, this symposium considers Rome as a transnational contact zone for abstract women artists in the decades following the Second World War, from the 1950s through the 1970s. For instance, the English painter Sandra Blow enrolled at the Accademia di Belle Arti as early as 1947, committing fully to abstract painting upon her return to the UK in 1950. Other women abstract artists who lived in Rome for various periods of time over the following decades include Mira Brtka and Milena Čubraković from former Yugoslavia, Gencay Kasapçi from Turkey, Marcia Hafif from the US, Bertina Lopes from Mozambique, and Carmengloria Morales from Chile.

Hippospit blog

Hippospit is a travel blog, created by a creative person who has been on the road for two years.

Currently, hippospit is accepting submissions from artists, writers, and other creatives who have something to say about the places they’ve been.

To be considered for publication, please send a jpeg, google doc, or pdf of your completed piece. The more artistic, unique, and insightful, the better. I don’t care where you’ve been - you can submit a comic about a night you spent in a Motel 6 while driving across Iowa to visit your aunt - so long as it’s unique and well-executed.

Also, you must have a PayPal account to be compensated for your work. Hippospit pays between $15-35 per accepted submission, depending on the complexity of the work.
