Halle Luttrell

The concept of my work revolves around the female gaze and personal connection. In my practice, I use realism and oil paint to express my perception of the women in my life, often including mixed media to exemplify that vision further. My work conveys the cinematic origin of “the gaze” terminology by referencing photography to create aesthetic compositions. My skill set for creating powerful and yet poised portraits, juxtaposed by the simplicity of my mundane friendships, suggests the nature of how I view my inner circle. Congruently, my goal is to also portray how strong and beautiful these women are using vibrant color and cinematic experiences so that they may see it for themselves. Inspired by artists like Amy Sherald, Alice Neel and Kehinde Wiley, I aim to use portraiture to elevate women’s voices and bring joy to those I love.
