Aquatic wildlife and human relationships with watersheds

Submerge is a research residency for artists interested in water. The week long residency will facilitate 12 – 15 workshops, lectures and excursions lead by scientists and ecologists who work with water.

The program will focus on biodiversity and ecology but also feature lessons on history, infrastructure and physics.

Outline of activities:

We invite you to give a private artist talk to share your work with the group.

Tour a working hydro electric dam.

Workshop on Underwater sound recording.

Visit the Hogs Back Lock keeper and learn about how the canal works.

Visit the Water & Ice Research Laboratory to learn about diatoms, freshwater microbes and microplastics.

Germiante

Germinate is an intensive, week long residency for artists to study plants in Canada. Twice daily workshops, lectures and field trips will give you first hand expiriences with a broad range of botanical information.

Audio Technologist Practicum

Overview

Learn the implementation and maintenance of audio systems for music recording, film/digital cinema, web-based audio applications, and music creation/composition spaces. 

Practicum will become familiar with maintaining and upgrading software and hardware used in audio production as well as wiring and calibration practices, using a variety of test equipment. 

In addition to providing support in the production spaces, the participant will also be called upon to assist in facilitating artists in the setup and operation of audio systems for composition and creation.

Archives Practicum

Overview

The Archives Practicum program is designed for new archivists with an interest in artistic, multimedia, and/or corporate records. This hands-on experience allows new professionals to gain skills and learn from Banff Centre’s Archivist.

The Archivist will mentor the participant in an area of interest such as digitization and digital archiving, arrangement and description, records management, or reference and outreach. The participant will also receive a general overview of the activities of an Archives and Records Management Centre, with introductions to all key aspects of archival practice.

Library Practicum

Program Overview

The Library Practicum program is designed for new library professionals with a background in the arts. This hands-on experience allows individuals an opportunity to learn alongside the Manager, Library and Archives and receive direct mentorship in collection management, reference services, outreach and liaisonship, library program development, and residency support. 

Participants will receive a general overview of the library’s activities with introductions to all aspects of the library.
