International Art Competition Open

Contemporary Art Room Gallery is proud to announce their 3rd “Open” Online Art Competition for the month of January 2020. This is an international competition and artists from around the world are welcome to submit their work. There is no theme in this competition. All visual art mediums are acceptable (painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, digital, prints, fiber art, collage or installation art) except sound and video art.

Writing Studio | Literary Arts

Overview

An ideal environment for artistic inspiration and growth, Writing Studio provides writers and poets with an extended period of uninterrupted writing time and one-on-one editorial assistance from experienced writers/editors. 

You’ll also have the opportunity to engage with a community of working writers, work with a voice and movement coach, and to share your work at a weekly reading event.

What does the program offer?

This program is designed to offer the freedom of unstructured time for each individual participant’s needs and desired outcomes. The residency also offers the opportunity to work with our esteemed faculty mentors over five weeks. 

Indigenous Storytellers and Spoken Word Residency

Overview

The Indigenous Storytellers and Spoken Word Residency will push the parameters of traditional storytelling, while retaining the integrity of how stories come to be. Participants will be immersed in in-depth writing practices involving visual, research, and meditative exploration, as well as elder teaching and land based outings. 

With coaching from experienced faculty, participants will collaborate with one another and as a collective to refine stories already told and create new ones to share in a professional capacity.

Opera in the 21st Century: Creators Lab

Overview

The Opera in the 21st Century: Creators Lab residency will provide teams of up to five members the exciting opportunity to work together on a new concept for the opera Proving Up (written by composer Missy Mazzoli and librettist Royce Vavrek).

Participants will have access to talented mentors, singers, and production support to test proof of concept for their creations. Concepts will be adjudicated by a panel of senior opera practitioners, and awards will follow.

Opera in the 21st Century: Singers and Répétiteurs

Overview

Opera in the 21st Century is a performance-based, collaborative training experience for emerging opera professionals that challenges the conventions of opera performance, production, and design. 

The residency’s focus is to develop young opera professionals with the skills and experience to take them to the next level of their careers in an evolving industry. The multi-disciplinary program offers a unique opportunity to work with and learn from artists specializing in a range of areas including design, creation, composition, and production.

Global Nonviolent Film Festival

Global Nonviolent Film Festival is the most important and renowned nonviolent film festival in the world and it takes place on-line.

The 2020 and 9th edition of the Festival takes place September 24 - October 4. 

This is an on-line film Festival. All the nonviolent feature films, documentaries, shorts and music videos selected to participate in the Festival will be screened during the above-mentioned dates on the Festival's TV Channel on Vimeo exclusively:
