Backroads: Art Less-Travelled

Vestige Concept Gallery Presents: Backroads: Art Less-Travelled. This exhibit seeks to showcase works of art that venture off the beaten path, especially with regard to travel.   Artwork could include places or experiences involving hidden gems, special or unusual places, wanderings, odd travel, strange encounters, and/or "lost" and fading places.

We are seeking artwork of any kind, from Emerging, Mid-Career, and/or Professional Artists.  Work should somehow relate to the theme of the show.

"Backroads: Art Less-Travelled" In-Person opening reception will be held Saturday, June 5th, at 6 PM.

ELIGIBILITY

"Backroads" is open to any artists over age 18, within the United States and Canada.

New Appalachia Mixed Exhibition w/ Special Guest Curator

New Appalachia Mixed Exhibition seeks to capture the new and innovative artistic experience surrounding Appalachia and beyond.  Known as "The Paris of Appalachia," the Exhibition will be held in the cultural heart of Pittsburgh, PA, at Vestige Concept Gallery.

Post-Rustbelt: Living Between America

Post-Rustbelt: Living Between America seeks to capture the artistic experience of life in "Middle America" during the decades following the decline of industry (mid 1970's) to the turn of the Millennium. These rustbelt states are most often thought to include New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

We are seeking artwork representative of, but not limited to: industry decline, the disappeance of main street (and subsequent rise of hyper consumerism), general life (artistic, social, work, family, otherwise) caught between changes (i.e. holding onto a past way of life while searching for new identity), and/or juxtaposition of old and new.

Tough Art @ Home

The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh (CMP) is dedicated to fostering the talent and innovation of artists as experience makers. The Tough Art Residency Program, that began in 2007, was approaching its 14th year of existence this summer. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the residency had to be canceled for 2020 season.

In light of that, we began to consider how we might engage our audience while the Museum remains closed. The Museum is always committed to working with artists to present excellent contemporary art to our visitors. Every year artists are invited to work with the museum through a multitude of programs and projects, and the Museum is committed to continuing this mission throughout the closure.

Tough Art Residency

The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh announces a request for proposals for its annual Tough Art Residency Program. The residency invites artists to work in the museum to develop and create artworks that will be exhibited fall/winter 2020.

This residency offers a $5,000 honorarium, $3,500 materials budget, access to fabrication facilities, marketing and documentation services, and an opening reception. Out-of-town artists are provided with housing and transit to/from Pittsburgh. The residency runs June through mid-September 2020; artists are expected to be in Pittsburgh for the duration of the residency.
