cura
cura intention is to establish a space for artists both living and working in the borough of Lewisham to exhibit artwork in a nontraditional art setting. Its purpose is to expand public engagement, reaching an audience that may not otherwise go to creative institutions. Found at Catford Mews cura is looking for wall based submissions of any medium and size, to be exhibited for a period of 6-7 weeks.  

Submission Requirements

cura submission requires a maximum of 5 images of completed works with both a Personal Statement (max 150 words) and Supporting Statement for each individual work (max 100 words). Images must be submitted by WeTransfer, with link to download attached to email submission (subject heading cura submission).

Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2019 exhibition

A pioneering celebration of drawing returns to Trinity Buoy Wharf in London

“Drawing has seen something of a renaissance in the last twenty years in the UK”, wrote Professor Anita Taylor in The Guardian in 2014. An upcoming exhibition, the annual Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize celebrates this revival of drawing in London’s historic Docklands.

Rebecca Vassie Memorial Award

The Rebecca Vassie Trust  announces the fourth annual Rebecca Vassie Memorial Award for emerging photographers, which includes a cash bursary of £2,000.

The award, which funds an early-career photographer in the UK to undertake a narrative photography project, also includes more than £1,000-worth of premier printing at Metro Imaging plus support towards industry and public exposure. In addition, up to twelve longlisted applicants join the trust’s Development Network, which offers smaller grants towards educational projects and professional development throughout the year.

Judges for the award include Caroline Hunter (picture editor, Guardian Weekend magazine), Phil Coomes (picture editor, BBC News Online) and Jennifer Thatcher (critic, curator and lecturer).

The sensation of home

According to the International Migrant Stock 2019 the UN revealed that the number of migrants worldwide has risen by almost a quarter since the beginning of the decade. By 2019, there were 272 million immigrants, 51 million more than in 2010. Over two fifths of all international migrants worldwide in 2019 had been born in Europe (61 million) or in Central and Southern Asia (50 million). So how does this affect the sense of home? Is home where you come from or the place you go? I ask what home means to someone who never lived where one comes from and if home is even a place to locate.

Call For Entries: Mark Tanner Sculpture Award 2020-21

The most significant award for emerging artists working in the field of sculpture in the UK: offering £8,000 in financial support towards the making of new work + a solo exhibition in 2021. 

The Mark Tanner Sculpture Award is unique in its combination of offering both financial support towards the production of new work and a solo exhibition to an exceptional emerging sculptor. The award now includes a UK Touring Programme, taking MTSA artists to partner venues across the UK.
