NYC4PA Call for Entry - MOMENTUM 2019

MOMENTUM:

Though a photograph is a snapshot in time, the world around us is in constant motion. This call is not about "still life", "landscape", or "posed portrait" images. It is about how you capture the idea of motion/momentum in a single frame; photographs that clearly send a message to the viewer that the subject or the camera/lens is moving.  Is the position of the subject the indication - a wave arched to crash, or a ballerina in mid air? Or is it the subject or background blurred as in a speeding train you have panned with background buildings a blur?

2019 Dorothea Lange-Paul Taylor

A prize of $10,000 is given annually by the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University to support documentary artists, working alone or in teams, who are involved in extended, on-going fieldwork projects that rely on and exploit the interplay of words and images. The winner's work will also be published in the Center for Documentary Studies' digital publications and placed in the Archive of Documentary Arts at the Rubenstein Library at Duke University. Competitive applicants to this prize have a point of view derived from an in-depth understanding of place, history, and the current situation, in concert with a personal relationship to the proposed work. Ultimately, their commitment is to use documentary expression to motivate the thinking and reflection of others.

THE WESTMORLAND LANDSCAPE PRIZE

The Westmorland Landscape Prize is a national call to artists who are inspired by our landscape. Conceived and developed by Westmorland, the Prize aims to document, celebrate and interrogate our relationship with the landscape. The selection panel will be looking for works which reach beyond the aesthetic, stimulating thinking and debate about the way in which we exist alongside, as part of, or sometimes in spite of our landscape.
