Degenerate

In 1937, The Degenerate Art exhibition (Die Ausstellung "Entartete Kunst") was conceived and held in Nazi Germany, where party propagandists portrayed, mocked, and vilified the works of renowned modern artists as evidence of criminality and deviance. Nevertheless, the event was more popular with spectators than the accompanying state-sponsored exhibition intended to display the more classical type of art advocated by the regime. In the contemporary context, one could suspect a passionate photographer possesses the means, motive, and opportunity to capture the debaucherous image.

NYC4PA PRIMARY COLORS 2022

RED, YELLOW, and BLUE balloons were the trademark of Wonder Bread for 1950s TV kids. They are also the three basic paint colors an artist needs.  Although mixed together you can create a world of color, each stands out on its own as an important visual element.

Altetnative Processes Pride Open Call

In celebration of Pride Month Alternative Processes is launching a new open call for an online exhibition to showcase LGBTQIA+ artists working with alternative process photography, co-curated with Caleb Cole. 

Since its inception artists have been using alternative photography to explore, express, and navigate their identities, culture, and experiences.To highlight the diversity of the alternative processes community, we are seeking submissions that explore the queer experience. 

SUBMISSION TIMELINE:
The call will be open until June 27th. 

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
There is no application fee.

Theme: Liquid ~ Sky | Curated By: Praxis Directors

Liquid conforms to the shape of its container. The sky is an abstract sphere, centered on the earth. Liquid, Water, Sky and the liminal space between are by definition poetic and symbolic. Yet there are infinite iterations of liquid & sky: consider our human drive to master and contain liquids (pools, levies, faucets and bottles); idiomatic lamentations of “spilt milk” or “water under the bridge”– while also reaching upward in towering buildings, airplanes, and rockets that push skyward.

The representation of food has continuously been over the centuries at the center of the interest of artists and, subsequently, of photographers: first off through still lifes, then with the use of photography and even Eat Art. Food declares who we are and suggests the habits we have - gastronomical, social and cultural. This call intends to collect photographs that gravitate around the theme of food, conviviality and domestic hospitality.
