City:

THE ARTISTS FORUM PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION, part of our juried arts programming, is open to photographers of all levels seeking to gain exposure in the New York City and international arts and media market.

Its mission is to provide an accessible platform for photographers to present their best work for juried selection, increase artist communication and business contacts, provide career advancement opportunities, and publicly award talented artists.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our 2021 Competition Theme: (THE) POLITICS OF EMOTION

THE ARTISTS FORUM invites artists to showcase interpretations for the phrase: The Politics of Emotion.

‘Politics’ is not necessarily defined in terms of government, policy, or voting, but in this case has a broader meaning — the navigation of the politics inherent within interpersonal relationships and its emotional impact. This idea can be applied to external circumstances within any personal, societal, national, or international scenario.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Each submission, reviewed by a panel of industry professionals, will be rated upon its individual merits. Finalists in each category will be judged against one another and a winner declared.

Winners are eligible for a formal studio or Zoom interview with host to be promoted via THE ARTISTS FORUM: AFTV -- a 20+ year arts based television program broadcasted from mid-town Manhattan in New York City.

POLITICAL STATEMENT

Call for Exhibition │Free entry

Accepted media: Photography, Digital Visual Design, Video

Group Exhibition in Rome or Milan city. January 2022

-

Any tool that is useful for conveying and spreading a message is a useful means for the expression of a condition, of an individual and of a community. It is a means through which one can spread principles of ethics often forgotten, and also a means through which one may manifest and defend the rights of a minority, a minority that often is invisible, but which, like the force generated by a strong pressure - and repression - explodes like an unexpected bomb.

Like many precursors of the history of art and photography, from the German Dadaists to the photo-documentary / reporting of the first decades of the 20th century, the authors of the "Political Statement" exhibition will show the world through the testimony of an experience, as well as through a critical and analytical view on today's political and social issues.

Call for entries: Kodama Photo Contest

Share

Country:

The mythical Kodama were believed to reside beneath the shifting emerald tides of an endless sea of trees in the ancient folklore of Japan, forest deities whose forms were often indistinguishable from the woods in which they made their homes. Yet Kodama also referred to the mournful cry of these spirits which resounded through the trees, an echo that carried nature’s tidings across the breadth of space and time.

The Kodama Film Festival was conceived as a means of emulating that same sense of earthly reverberation, by finding creative voices that would meaningfully reflect the wonder of the natural world onto contemporary society.

The brief for submissions is as broad as nature is vast; to present photos that explore the physical and spiritual landscapes of the planet; to connect the rhymes and rhythms of the people with the land; and to generate a sense of communal reflection upon humanity’s often tumultuous relationship with its various habitats.

Any variation or experimentation on theme and genre is very much encouraged. You should feel free to work without constraints, approaching the given subject matter from whichever way you choose.

General topics that may be touched upon include: the relationship between architectural and natural space, portraits of rural life, tension between local and global communities, attitudes towards migration and diversity, the ecological transformation of the planet due to climate change, and the possibilities for sustainable development.

With the founding of Kodama, we aim to bring together a diverse community of both emerging and existing filmmakers who through a variety of styles and sensibilities will form a living artistic record of the natural world. We would very much like to use this opportunity to extend an invitation to visual artists and directors everywhere to take part in this ongoing experiment, which will offer a unique chance to showcase your distinctive vision of the world....

Prizes Details:

The selected photographs will be part of a fanzine published by La Casa del Árbol bookstore in Buenos Aires and an exhibition in cultural spaces. There will also be a monetary prize.
