NYC4PA CALL FOR ENTRY - PRIMARY COLORS

Country:

City:

Eligibility:

RED, YELLOW, and BLUE balloons were the trademark of Wonder Bread for 1950s TV kids. They are also the three basic paint colors an artist needs.  Although mixed together you can create a world of color, each stands out on its own as an important visual element.

This competition is about images in which one of these colors is a critical component.  You will submit each image into one of the categories RED, BLUE or YELLOW. Possibilities include - black and white photographs with a single point of color, a red, yellow or blue monochrome, essentially any image where red, yellow or blue stands out as an important part of the composition. Is the blue sky a main element of your image, a red ball or maybe a funky pair of yellow sunglasses? Have you modified a print to be all shades of red?  Be creative and send us your best!

  • Organization: Praxis Gallery
  • Name of the Call for Entry: Motion > Blur
  • Juror: Sandrine Hermand-Grisel
  • Entry Deadline: Oct 31ST, 2022
  • Notice of Acceptance: Nov 12TH, 2022

Description:

In most cases, photography is used to “freeze time,” with a still image. Motion in photography creates a paradox: the image is a frozen moment in time but what is captured is an object that is a blur of motion – an apparent streaking, bending, distorting and /or movement of light and objects in the foreground or background of the image frame. Blur can demonstrate the velocity of movement. It can convey the emotional dimensions of the subject photographed, presenting dream like qualities by invoking the surreal and transitory nature of time passing. Meteors streak across the sky, ghostly figures move through a room, the artist paints shapes with a light source. These are some examples of how blur represents motion in time-lapse photography.

Praxis Gallery seeks the submission of photographic art that demonstrates the fundamental qualities that make motion & blur a compelling element of contemporary photography. All genres, capture types, black & white and color, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission.

TEXTURES

Theme:

Country:

City:

Eligibility:

Textures shape our daily lives. Artists can create texture in several ways - not just by the
materials they choose, but by the way they see those materials. We perceive textures from the
moment of birth, wen each interaction is brining sensation. The pleasant breeze of air on a
warm autumn day, the gentle rustle of a stream, the burning but inviting prickliness of hot sand
on the beach, our every movement is met by texture. From the gruesome to the charming.
Oftentimes, we forget events, the specific details, the sights, the sounds, but the feelings still
remain for decades after creating everlasting memories in our minds. Present and lingering,
these memories caused by texture remind us of who we were, who we are, and who we will be;
Arguably making texture the most important out of the five senses.
This is why we, at Art Square Gallery NY, decided to open an exhibition featuring texture. We
invite you to reveal our 3D gallery and experience a sensation like no other from the magical
influences brought about by textures from all around the globe.

NYC4PA CALL FOR ENTRY - BLACK AND WHITE

Country:

City:

Eligibility:

Photography, in its infancy, was entirely about black and white or monochrome images.  Color was an after print add on. NYC4PA, with this call, is once again focusing on one of our favorite themes - Black and White celebrating those images still so central to the field of photography despite the introduction of color film and the vast array of image capture and post process adjustment software.

Send us your monochrome images where all the emotion, texture and beauty are expressed in shades from white to dark. No matter if your original image was shot with tri x, a digital SLR, or your phone, if the end product is a terrific monochrome image (Black and White or Sepia), it fits the call.

As with all NYC4PA calls all 2D photo mediums are welcome.

Tilt/Shift – Experiment as Normality
Even in our society’s fields of activity we previously believed to be safe, the contemporary crises prevalent worldwide are revealing to us a long-inconceivable collapse. Although no claim can be laid on a normal state of the world, the feeling of security is dwindling for an ever-growing number of people: habitual viewpoints are breaking away, certainties are shifting.

The promise that all will remain well, or that things will be all right again, is currently unravelling and is almost impossible to carry into tomorrow from today. Even people who, thus far, imagined themselves to be safe in their habitat are noticing that their everyday life is under ever-more frequent threat. Thought patterns are being queried and discussed – constructively by groups and individuals, but also in a polarising way by fact-twisters. Old discourses on euro-centrically and post-colonially influenced views of the world – in macro and in micro – are being sustained and propagated.

Times of crisis not only signify uncertainty, but are also able – despite it all – to highlight opportunities. Partly out of necessity, potentials are examined at all levels for open spaces, new phenomena and further developments. Will the experiment of constantly having to refocus become the normal state now? How can photography capture the enormous changes? What images allow us to better understand an uncertain, diverse world subject to turbulent and complex transformation – and to keep an eye on the experiment’s open outcome?
