All proceeds will go to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity in memory of Sophie Maria Taylor who died in 2017 when she was Year 8 at the college. Artists from around the globe have sent wonderful artwork from Australia to the Ukraine, USA to the Netherlands and everywhere in between. So many wonderful artists have donated work for this very special fundraiser in Sophie’s memory. There has also been a phenomenal show of support and goodwill from the talented amateur and professional artists here in East Sussex, as well as a number of postcards from talented young students. There is a ‘secret’ artist blog where some of the contributors are revealed but the artwork will remain a secret until after the bidding ends.

Sheroes in Quarantine

Sheroes in Quarantine is Lon-art’s first online exhibition dedicated to highlighting women’s issues and roles during the Covid-19 social crisis.

There is no time like the present and at Lon-art, we feel that now is the moment to re-think how our current society is structured and reinvent the way we co-exist with one another. Creativity, activism and community foster these possibilities and invite the re-imagining of a society that works for all – a prospect in reach.

We believe that now is the time to reinvent the way we live and interact with each other. We need creative minds, activists and community to facilitate the imagining of a more sustainable society, where nature, women and marginalised groups are not only considered in policy, but part of decision-making.

Sheroes in Quarantine showcases 14 women artists and their respective 14 herstories; 14 reflections for the 14 days that represent a marker to save lives, our healthcare, and the future of our societies as we know it. These herstories uncover the impact that lockdown and isolation are having on artists’ creativity and practice; the risks that the quarantine is posing to women; the consequences of capitalism in women’s everyday lives, now brought to the fore, and the gendered lense around mental ill-health. This project is a homage to these diaries of personal narratives the 14 exhibited artists have been so brave to share.

Draw to Perform - Performative Drawing Day - London, March 2020

Date:
Sunday, March 8, 2020

Draw to Perform invites you to a day of live drawing performances and workshops by local and international artists. Drawing performance is a stream of performance art in which artists create their artwork in front of a live audience while communicating with the viewers. Mark making in drawing performance is often a result of powerful physical gesture and body movement connects elements of line, movement, space and time.

We invite all art lovers, drawing fans and students to attend this event, to follow the Draw to Perform and to participate in the discussion.

The upcoming workshop session by Draw to Perform will include three bookable workshops, provided by artists, dancers, and performers. The workshops will explore drawing performance and strategies for forming a dialog between drawing, sound, dance, process and performance. Participants will draw live, share and discuss their outcomes and ideas. Workshops will target different groups and issues in drawing and performance and will allow the general public the opportunity to experience an art form first hand, work with and be tutored by some of the leading artists in their field.

Each session will start with a short live performance by the instructor, followed by a one and a half hour workshop about performative drawing.
