The World Theatre Training Institute AKT-ZENT/ ITI offers with its Online Theatre Academy the unique opportunity for a regular exchange of ideas between professional theatre practitioners.
Teacher and master student – Dr Jurij Alschitz and Dr Olga Lapina, two generations of Stanislavsky’s disciples explore the legacy of Konstantin Sergeyevich Stanislavsky and its relevance for today’s theatre practice in a course of profound interactive meetings.
Welcome to join N°5.
Jurij Alschitz and Olga Lapina believe, that their mission is to impart knowledge of the system to a new generation, but they relate past experience and contemporary theatrical thought critically, discovering unconventional and creative contemporary applications of what might be known as traditional elements of Stanislavsky system. With this course they want to encourage theatre practicioners to develop their one system.
With the 5th dialogue they will explore the changing concepts of action, conflict and event:
Having spoken at length about the concept of truth on stage, let us now turn to the action. It is sometimes regarded as the central element of the system. But it is precisely the way Stanislavsky himself dealt with "action" that underwent extreme changes in the course of his rehearsal and teaching practice. So what is the object and goal of an action? How can it be defined today? What is its meaning and form of appearance in the contemporary theatre context, which is characterised by contradictory ideas such as the absence of action?
What is the meaning of conflict in this context, which was once seen as the basis of all dramatic action? Is the search for conflict in this sense still contemporary? What meaning then does the so-called event acquire?
Are all these terms still applicable in today's theatre? If so, how have they changed?
Time: 21 February at 3 - 6 PM (UTC+1)
