Kolaj Fest New Orleans 2023: Call for Papers, Artists & Projects

How do you want to manifest at Kolaj Fest New Orleans 2023?

Kolaj Fest New Orleans is a multi-day festival and symposium, 7-11 June 2023. Our mission is to create a platform that allows us to explore critical issues around collage (how it is curated and presented, its role in contemporary art, and the tensions between collage as a medium, a genre, a community, and a movement.)

Our goal is to create an event that attracts a variety of people working in various capacities, such as art professionals at museums, galleries, and centers as well as academics, writers, and artists. The general public will be invited to join us for gallery visits, evening presentations, and collage making.

Call to Artists: Collage Artist Residency Scotland-Spring 2023

When artists approach a place as an archive, they draw out a deeper, more complex understanding of that place that enriches our understanding of our communities, helps us be better citizens, and empowers us to take better care of our neighbors. Collage Artist Residency: Scotland is a week-long artist residency designed for artists working in collage who seek to engage with place in their practice in community with other artists. Using the rural community of Sanquhar, Scotland as a laboratory, artists will spend a week making artwork; learning about the place, its people, and its history; and discussing how art can capture, share, reflect, comment, and otherwise engage with a sense of place.

Call to Artists: Curating Collage Workshop-January 2023

Curating is a vital part of art’s function: a curator creates a bridge between artwork and audience. For artists, this process can be confusing and mysterious. The goal of the Curating Collage Workshop is to equip artists with the tools to curate their own work, to work with curators, and build exhibitions that connect with diverse audiences.

Call to Artists: Politics in Collage Residency 2022

A four-week, virtual/online residency with Kolaj Institute in November and December 2022

Deadline to apply: October 16, 2022

We are living in an explosively political time, faced with crises that are not only deepening individually but becoming increasingly intersectional in relation to each other. There is a strong history of collage art being used to tackle complex socio-political issues during some of the most difficult eras but how can it meet this moment and spark meaningful dialogues about our varied, contemporary issues?
