Studio Montclair's "Inspired By ... Quilts!"

For this exhibit, artists are asked to submit works of art that are inspired by the antique quilt collection at the Montclair History Center. We are defining inspiration broadly to include a shape, a color, a process, materials, or even a reaction to words that describe a quilt or the women who made them and their place in society. Please note: Existing artwork that fits this theme may be submitted for this call.

Pictures and descriptions of the quilts are available on Studio Montclair’s website, and a selection will be on display at the Crane House and Historic YWCA in Montclair during the months of April and May (Wednesday afternoons at 1 and by appointment).

Studio Montclair’s annual Portfolio Series showcases multiple works of four to six artists and features a moderated panel discussion and slide show as part of the opening reception.

Studio Montclair ViewPoints 2019 Annual

Studio Montclair seeks entries for the 22nd Annual Open Juried Exhibition “ViewPoints 2019” at Studio Montclair Gallery, Studio Montclair’s nonprofit gallery located in the downtown Montclair Arts District from May 2 to June 15, 2019.

“ViewPoints,” now in its 22nd year, expands the reach of SMI to introduce artists not only from New Jersey but from across the nation and the world to our regional community. Over the last 21 years, we have had many prominent jurors and artists participate in this exhibition.

Divergent Evolution

Divergent Evolution

Tracing the factors that lead to the creation of a single work of art - or series - can be linear or oblique, requiring hindsight of a quasi- archaeological level. What was the spark, the precedent, the breakthrough, the catalyst that led to this specific piece?
