"Polysemy: Dual Meanings In Contemporary Art"

Eligibility:

Polysemy is the phenomenon of a singular word or phrase holding multiple meanings. The Gala Exhibition visually grapples with meaning and symbolism as interpreted through artwork. The duality of man and the double entendres evident in nature, among other subjects highlight the way dual meanings can both contradict, intertwine and evolve to introduce new interpretations. Subjects of morality, aesthetics, and human nature will be highlighted with an aim to spark discussion, emotion, and contemplation.

Culturally Arts Collective invites you to submit your artwork to the 2022 Gala Exhibition. This call is open to all individuals or groups from any country, background, and education level.

6 VIRTUAL EXHIBTIONS

CULTVR Lab is pleased to announce the first two open calls for Catalyst 360º, an ambitious residency and virtual exhibitions programme designed to support artists to engage, develop and test immersive experiences that lie between the physical and digital realm.

6 virtual exhibitions within the digital twin of CULTVR Lab will be facilitated through this strand, supporting artists from any creative background or discipline and at any stage in their career.

The concept is simple:

What show do you want to realise if money is no object?
How have you always wanted to present your work if there are no physical considerations?

This strand will allow individual artists or collaborative teams to design and realise (Virtually) their perfect exhibition to be presented digitally at CULTVR Lab gallery. Artists will put forward their ideas and provide the relevant content for the showcase.

Once the artists have been appointed they will work closely with the creative team at 4Pi Productions to plan and curate the exhibitions whilst the interactive design team produces the virtual shows. This project aims to be conducted remotely from beginning to end, as such, all meetings with the artists will be online.

Each digital showcase will launch on the CULTVR portal and across various social media channels from March 2022 onwards.

In May/June 2022 we will undertake a public vote to select the exhibition that audiences most want us to try to physically realise at the venue for later in 2022/23.

The virtual exhibitions will provide the 6 artists involved with an artistic fee of £750 and with a unique tool to disseminate their creative practice internationally, providing a long legacy to their work across platforms.

This call will be supporting two artists based in Wales, two artists based nationally and two international artists at different points of their creative journey.

30 Years at Crane Kalman Gallery

This ambitious yet intimate retrospective will showcase 34 paintings created in oil and acrylic, as well as a selection of small works on paper and oil on board, and give a fascinating insight into the journey of a landscape painter and his relationship with the gallery over three decades.

This 30-year collaboration between artist and gallerist started when Nicholas Jones met Andras Kalman, the British-Hungarian art dealer who founded Crane Kalman and championed the work of L.S. Lowry, Ben Nicholson, Graham Sutherland and Mary Newcomb.

Initially more abstract, the artist’s work has since moved towards figuration and back again, and evokes the transient beauty of the natural world, and the sublime grandeur of the Arctic.
