VSA Emerging Young Artists: Interchange

Interchange asks artists to explore the connection of different ideas and pathways to each other. How does your art interact with your disability identity and the world? How are you initiating dialogue with others?

This national juried exhibition seeks artwork that demonstrates the excellence and important perspectives of artists with disabilities, ages 16-25, residing in the United States. Fifteen artists each receive a $5,000 award, attend professional development activities at the Kennedy Center, and have one of their submitted works featured in a national exhibition.

Volkswagen Group of America is the VSA Emerging Young Artists Program Presenting Sponsor.

An Abstract View

AN ABSTRACT VIEW
On View Aug 24-Sept 30 | Opening Night Reception: Thursday, Aug 24, 6-8 pm

This show encompasses all forms of non-representational art from Cubism to Abstract Expressionism to Minimalism and beyond. Juror is Tre Michel, Co-Owner, State of the Arts Gallery, Sarasota.

Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality but instead uses shapes, colours, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect.

Some noteworthy abstract artists include: Kazimir Malevich, Hilma af Klint, Helen Frankenthaler, Sam Gilliam, Pablo Picasso, Barbara Hepworth, Robert Delaunay, Piet Mondrian, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, Lee Krasner, and Cy Twombly.

I AM HERE - a partnership, Studio Montclair and OutMontclair

Studio Montclair seeks entries for I AM HERE - a collaboration with OutMontclair
at the Studio Montclair Gallery located in the heart of Montclair from September
15 – October 20, 2023.
The exhibition, I AM HERE, is seeking submissions from artists whose work reflects
what it means to be queer and be ourselves. This theme can take many forms and is
open to interpretation! In the face of all the emotions we contend with, this showcase of
artwork is an opportunity to be heard about your anger, your hopes, your fears, and
your dreams! The title of the show expresses the joy and power queer communities feel
as they take up space, gather together, making themselves known to be heard and
seen.
