Translucent Souls

Eligibility:

Art Mums United, a global platform celebrating womxn creatives and motherhood is excited to announce a call for art for an international online exhibit “TRANSLUCENT SOULS” curated by Ekaterina Popova!

“Translucent Souls” are about visual artists telling their stories. We use words, but often the most important things remain unspoken. They are transferred onto a canvas, paper, photograph. They are taking shape in a sculpture or installation.

But can you really see the soul of an artist? Stay silent, watch closely and enter our world.

This online exhibit is a celebration of our abilities to express all while saying nothing.

About the guest curator:

Open call for artists - paid opportunity on a public Snoopy art trail

Share

City:

Eligibility:

Dogs Trust is leading the way in Cardiff with a new and exciting public art trail in collaboration with Snoopy and public art producers, Wild in Art. The wonderful city of Cardiff will be hosting A Dog’s Trail from March – June 2022, where we will be taking adventurers (human and dog!) on a vibrant trail of over 50, giant Snoopy sculptures through the heart of Wales’ capital city.

Our aims are to provide a post-pandemic boost to local economy, to bring local communities together by educating and inspiring all those who come to visit, and showcase some of the regions unique, diverse and dog loving creative talent - and who better for us to team up with than the most iconic dog in the world – Snoopy!

We’ve set ourselves a target of recruiting at least 50 talented artists to design and decorate our Snoopy sculptures, and so we invite you to apply to take part by submitting a Snoopy sculpture design by 1st of July 2021.

For further details on how the trail works, to download the artist information pack or to submit a design for consideration, please visit adogstrail.org.uk/artists

Benefits to participating artists:

  • Receive £900 commission fee on completion of their Snoopy sculpture
  • The opportunity to showcase their work to thousands as part of a mass participation public art event
  • Have their design featured on the world’s most iconic illustrated dog
  • Be part of a unique, covid-safe event celebrating art, community pride and physical and mental wellbeing
  • Meet other artists and get the chance to work side by side in a Cardiff-based, communal art space – or transport your sculpture to your own studio
  • Engage with businesses who will sponsor our Snoopy sculptures
  • Support Dogs Trust in raising funds to care for over 14,000 dogs across the UK each year, and supporting the launch of our brand new Cardiff Rehoming Centre.

Throughout the world, sculpture trails see extensive mass-participation; visitors young and old come from far and wide, creating extensive long-term social, cultural and economic benefits for the host city and through sculpture sponsorship and a post-trail auction, raising vital and much-needed funds for charity.

Who are Dogs Trust?

We are the UK’s largest dog welfare charity with 20 UK Rehoming Centre’s and give love, care and undivided attention to over 14,000 dogs each year. We’re not new to Wales, as we’ve had a Rehoming Centre in Bridgend for over 50 years, but we’re especially excited to be opening our 21st centre in Cardiff which will allow us to care for an additional 1,000 dogs each year and provide several jobs and volunteering opportunities within the community.

A Dog’s Trail is an exciting new adventure for Dogs Trust – and we can’t wait to work with you. The trail’s aim is to raise significant funding towards our work so that we can continue to provide our services for those who need them the most. But we also know that it is going to be a spectacular exhibition – bringing together many communities through the creation and display of sculptures trailing through the city – a true showcase of Cardiff as a place to visit, love, live, work and play.

Thank you so much for your time, and we hope to hear from you soon.

The A Dog’s Trail team at Dogs Trust.

Driving the Human: Call for Proposals

Share

Eligibility:

From February 10 to April 9, 2021, Driving the Human invites designers, artists, scientists, initiatives, and agents from any fields of expertise from anywhere in the world, to join us in shaping sustainable and collective futures that combine science, technology, and the arts in a transdisciplinary and collaborative approach. Our Open Call invites proposals that critically engage with the present and propose alternatives current developments and disruptions, reflecting on what makes us human, and reexamining our relationship with society, the planet, and life itself.

Proposals may connect to larger themes, such as the social impact of climate change, energy cycles and our current technological acceleration, the mirror between the biosphere and the technosphere, contemporary processes of exchanging values and objects, and/or the impact of collective decision-making. Driving the Human welcomes proposals that embrace notions of urgency and radical openness as much as curiosity, interconnectedness, and new modes of collectivity across scales. Similarly, we encourage proposals that ask fundamental questions about the predominant narratives that we exchange about the world and our role in it.

After a series of crisis, from the economic to the pandemic, it is evident that humanity and its way of living on planet earth are endangered. Fundamental questions about issues such as mass consumption, factory farming, and mass tourism need to be reflected upon. We welcome new constellations for working and thinking together, connecting diverse knowledge and varied disciplines.

Selected applicants will be invited to interact with the expertise and multidisciplinary know-how of the Driving the Human partner institutions – acatech, National Academy of Science and Engineering; the mentoring program Forecast; the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design; and ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe – to develop future-proof concepts and bring them to fruition as prototypes. Ultimately, the process and outcomes of Driving the Human become tools that enable new worldviews and open the doors to alternative ways of coexisting.

The application deadline is Friday, April 9, 2021, at 11:59pm CET. Applications must be submitted in English, via our online application form.

Please consult our Application Guidelines, Terms and Conditions, and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for more information.
