Sound, Language & Position with AGF

Workshop dates: 17/05/2021 - 2021-08-31

Listening is a practice - it is a political act. Sound is a way of knowing the world; a way of orienting ourselves, of expressing, understanding and contextualising our position. We can use sound to make connections, to grow decentralized networks, to organise. The possibilities of language - political language, deconstructed language, poetic language - to organise these networks and connections is intensely powerful and nuanced. What is political sound? Or collective sound? Does it have a transformative quality? How can we make sound together, and decolonize our practice as an individualistic form of expression? What technology can we involve, develop or hack?

Call for BIPOC Writers: Somatic Movement and Dance Film Festival

Somatic Movement and Dance Film Festival, Essence of Embodiment Festival to be presented in March 2021, as part of the Curatorial Fellowship in Dance in partnership with Smush Gallery. Join us this spring in Jersey City and online, as we highlight emerging and established movement practitioners, directors, dance artists to Essence of Embodiment.

Through dance and film, we’ll be examining techniques to release fear & trauma, re-align the body with the mind while bringing together a group of multi-generational, multi-racial, dancers, artists, & writers through conversations about lessons they’ve learned throughout their careers. Ultimately exploring the theme of Somatic Awareness, Authority, and Ownership of the Body.

Hindsight: The Untold Stories of 2020

Hindsight is a collection of stories about 2020, written by people just like you. We’re seeking stories from around the world that capture what it was like to wake up every day to a new normal — whether that means navigating emergencies as a first responder or tying the knot over Zoom. We're particularly interested in material that gets up close and personal with the struggles of 2020, rather than headlines or commentary on current events.

Hindsight is an independent, one-time publication. Content will be made available in two forms: Some stories will be shared on our website; the very best submissions will be compiled into a print anthology, which will be published in 2021.

Submission fee: None

Length: Up to 2,000 words

Deadline: Rolling
