Call for Artists - ALCHEMY - Wake up screaming #11

Edition #11 of Wake up screaming will present the opportunity for us to explore alchemy in its various forms, particularly from a creative perspective. We are interested in hearing from artists using Alchemical themes as a reference point in their work.

Some say it was a failed precursor to chemistry, an extinct and disproved theory that has perhaps become somewhat diluted, dispersed and misinterpreted in modern times, it has certainly travelled far from its initial task of turning lead to gold and creating the philosophers stone.

Applications Open for Jerwood Makers Open 2019

Jerwood Makers Open, now in its seventh edition, is a biennial opportunity and seeks to support exceptional skill and imagination in what are traditionally described as the applied arts. JMO has established itself as one of the best regarded opportunities for makers in the craft calendar. The award and exhibition freely allow makers to develop their creative ideas and further their practice independently of specific commissioning structures. The resulting work will be shown in a group exhibition as part of the Jerwood Visual Arts programme at Jerwood Space in London next summer, before touring across the UK.

The Evolution Challenge

CREA’s Weeklys Challenges are week-long art challenges crafted to get the creative juices flowing! This weeks inspiring theme is Evolution!

“We are stardust, we are golden, We are billion year old carbon”- Joni Mitchel, 1970

It is scientifically proven that our bodies are made of remnants of stars and massive explosions in the galaxies, that, through evolutionary processes, have given rise to biodiversity in, species, organisms, and molecules.

In the mid-19th century, Charles Darwin formulated the scientific theory of evolution on his famous book The Origin of Species. This book, written for non-specialist, has generated scientific, philosophical, and religious discussion since its publication.
