OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS' EXPRESSION OF INTEREST: GLADSTONE PARK PUBLIC ART COMMISSION 2022

The Gladstone Park Public Art Commission seeks to develop three high quality artistic interventions which acknowledge the park’s link to the transatlantic slave trade whilst celebrating and amplifying hidden histories of Brent's Black community. The long-term vision is to create a space for learning, reflection and continued conversation with the community so this hidden past is embraced as part of the borough’s history.

This is an exciting and high-profile commission with the opportunity to create a lasting legacy for the borough. The council are seeking expressions of interest from artists/organisations to design, develop and deliver the following three artworks;

Art For Real | Open Call

What is art? Where is it heading?

Is art still in the hands of artists and art dealers or it has become a tool for the crypto speculators?

The world is changing, everything becomes more virtual including art and in the process a lot of speculators are trying to twist things in their own interest like in the case of NFT.

The crypto speculators are trying to make this the new “COOL” but what is so cool about it?

Art is food for our souls, If they want this to be the new truth then they should start doing everything virtually, for example start eating virtual food or maybe get drunk with virtual alcohol, if they do this then by all means we will start to believe in their vision.

ICON | CALL FOR ARTISTS

What makes us artists? How do we make ourselves and our work known?

How do we know if is good or bad?

The truth is nobody has an answer for this questions and so we ask ourselves- “How did some artists managed to get famous, what was the difference between my work and theirs”?

If we take a look at some of the greatest names in the art history, one can realise how much they were working on their own image and how this impacted their legacy.

The same concept applies in contemporary art, the confidence of the artist is what makes a work of art, not the technique, style or medium, with the right confidence anything can be art in the contemporary market.

Contemporary Art Fair

Collect Art and Apart-space invite national and international artists to apply for the contemporary art fair, which will take place in several iconic spaces in Tbilisi, Georgia.

National and International artists, working in different media such as painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, textile, printmaking, video art, film, sound art, can apply for the open call.

Requirements:

For 2D work: Maximum 10 images (sent separately), Write the title, medium, size, year as the file name, Artist statement (word/pdf), CV, profile photo, work statement, price list (prices must include VAT). Images must be high-resolution photos with 300 dpi. Website, social media links

About Graphê Magazine

The idea for Graphê Magazine came to me whilst I was studying a BA (Hons) Photography degree in London. So many open calls I'd seen only benefitted the winner and the organisation running them. I decided that I wanted to create a community to support emerging artists!

Whilst the open calls do have a cost, we have tried to keep this minimal. This allows us to produce the magazine, but also hold exhibitions (more info on this below). We are also offering a bursary fund, that will be released onces a year to selected artist(s) to help further their creative career.
