Happiness That Knows No Bounds

An open call for the exhibition “Happiness Beyond Boundaries” is extended to all media visual artists by art curator Mr. Paris Kapralos and the Chili Art Gallery in Thissio area, Athens, Greece in February 2024 and will also be accessible online worldwide via ARTgrID platform.

The official languages of the exhibition are Greek and English, and all materials to be produced will be bilingual, including the exhibition catalog and the parallel online exhibition.

Eligibility: The exhibition welcomes original artworks of any style and artistic medium that engage with the theme. Paintings, prints, photography, digital art, collages, mosaics, sculptures are all accepted.

Conceptual Framework: In our time, the concept of love as a social narrative is influenced by a reevaluation of traditional perceptions, resulting in the emergence of more open and flexible forms of relationships. The pursuit of happiness and the emphasis on self-fulfillment have become central themes. The advent of the internet and social media has transformed how people create and maintain romantic relationships. The exploration and acceptance of different forms of love highlight the importance of self-discovery and personal development through these relationships. Love is no longer seen only as a search for the “Other” but as a process of self-awareness and personal growth. The idea of “one true everlasting love” is challenged, and people are more open to the possibility of multiple significant relationships throughout their lives. However, the increase in gender-based violence indicates deeper societal processes and imbalances. Domestic violence and femicide are manifestations of violence as a means of maintaining control or power in a society that has not completely eliminated traditional expectations and gender inequalities. The questioning of grand narratives, the relativity of truth, and polyphony remain significant. Art is called upon to capture the essence of love beyond boundaries: the universal, the personal, the ideal we must preserve, the irrational, the toxic, and the abusive we must combat, the essential, the fundamental, and the true we must discover. Through the exploration of multifaceted and often contradictory themes, art challenges us to examine happiness beyond boundaries, emerging through personal development and self-awareness.
