Rule Breakers: The Art of Invention

Calling all innovators, artists and visionaries! You’re invited to share your experience and positive outcomes from the 2020 pandemic. In celebration of the emergence of invention and as part of the Peckham community, we are looking for three local artists of any discipline to collaborate with goya design on an exhibition and artists in residence programme at our studio in Peckham Levels. Artists can apply to one or both as they wish. 

The exhibition centers on the process of invention and looks into how the pandemic created the perfect playground for visionaries and inspiration for new forms of creativity. Inspired by the new forms of neighbourhood attachment and collaboration, goya design will be launching tether, an invention that gives cyclists the freedom to move safely and open up new forms of dialogue amongst road users from drivers to skateboarders. Conceived, designed, tested and manufactured by goya during lockdown, the idea responds to. the increased reliance on new forms of micro-mobility, and the return of our cities becoming playgrounds.

We want to see artists' own interpretations of invention; and how the pandemic shone a spotlight on creating something meaningful in reaction to what has been a tough year for many. This can be as broad and conceptual as you like.

This exclusive opportunity offers a unique take on the residency programme; where artists will get the opportunity to network, promote their work, skillshare, use the newly designed studio space to create, and of course, the chance to work with goya design on paid commissions from clients. The 3-6 month residency will take place at goya design studio space in Peckham Levels, in return for 1-3 commissions and fixed drop-in studio times.

We would especially like to hear from under-represented artists within the local community, we welcome all applications irrespective of experience or background.

Final selections will be made in mid-May 2021.
