THE FOURTH EDITION OF THE YOUNG MASTERS ART PRIZE

The fourth edition of the Young Masters Art Prize will launch Autumn 2016.  The Call For Artists will be launched during Frieze week in London on the 2nd of October 2016 and remains open until 1st March 2017. The shortlist will be announced in May 2017 and the Prize exhibition takes place in London 18 – 24 June 2017 during which the winners will be announced. 

The Young Masters Maylis Grand Ceramics Prize, will also run concurrently, The Prize of £1,500 will be awarded to an artist who shows exceptional command of the medium of ceramics alongside an awareness of the art of the past and the heritage of ceramic craft.

Artists, working in any medium and from anywhere in the world, are invited to submit applications from the 2nd October 2016 until 1st March 2017.  The shortlisted artists will participate in the Prize exhibition at the prestigious Gallery 8, Duke Street, St James’s, London during the Masterpiece Art Week in 2017.   A judging panel chaired by Art Historian Godfrey Baker, and includes Royal Academy Chief Executive, Charles Saumarez Smith, will award three Prizes; an overall Prize of £1,500 and two highly commended Prizes of £500 each, kindly donated by the Artists’ Collecting Society. A special ‘Be Smart About Art’ award of £500 is also inaugurated with this edition of the prize. The winning artists will also be invited to exhibit their work internationally as part of the Young Masters International Tour in 2017-18.

The fourth edition of the Young Masters Art Prize also comprises the second edition of the Young Masters Maylis Grand Ceramics Prize. The Prize of £1,500 will be awarded to an artist who shows exceptional command of the medium of ceramics alongside an awareness of the art of the past and the heritage of ceramic craft.

The prize celebrates both emerging and established artists who pay homage to the skill and innovation of the Old Masters and art of the past.  The prize has grown considerably over the last few years and attracted more international visibility through the international curatorial touring program.  The Young Masters Tour 2015-16, took place in various venues, including the Young Masters Dialogues Exhibition at Sphinx Fine Art Gallery in Notting Hill, London, at Site 109 in LES, New Yorkat Ron Robinson, Santa Monica as well as major international art fairs including Art Miami, PULSE NY and Art Central, Hong Kong.
