Draw to Perform Residency Program

Draw to Perform Residency Program

6-20 October 2018

Headed by artist and curator Ram Samocha, founder of Draw to Perform, the D2P Residency program for Drawing Performance is a unique opportunity for professional artists and art students to engage in this dynamic artistic discipline.  The program provides foundation to develop drawing and performance skills and translate creative practice into live action. This is a 15 days structured program of mentored residency. It includes one on one mentorship, workshops, intensive studio time, studio visits and artist talks by UK drawing performance artists.

(In)visible

Taking place between 9 - 14 October 2018 to coincide with World Mental Health Day on 10 October, (In)visible will feature a group of artists who use their work to convey life’s difficulties. Curated by Amy Oliver and Jenni Bea, who were brought together by Instagram and share similar work themes, aesthetics and motivations.

The exhibition will feature work specifically produced as self-expression, communication and therapeutic release. With themes often thought of as taboo such as mental illness, addiction, abuse, and domestic violence, this exhibition promotes honesty and non-censorship. We aim to create a visually stimulating, thought-provoking, inclusive and engaging event that ignites discussion, tackles stigmas and unites artist and audience.

Call out: Both Sides Now with Fatima Al Qadiri

We’re looking for emerging female musicians, producers, visual artists and performance artists to take part in this exciting cross-artform residency led by composer, producer and conceptual artist Fatima Al Qadiri, developed in collaboration with curator and researcher Amal Khalaf.

Based at the People’s History Museum in Manchester across four days (9-12 July), you’ll collaborate to create new work inspired by the current exhibition Represent! Voices 100 Years Onwhich reflects on those who campaigned for better representation (most famously the suffragettes) and asks ‘How far have we really come in 100 years?’

The residency will culminate in a live showcase performance as part of ‘Radical Lates’ at the museum on Thursday 12 July.
