To submit, email us at residualbelievers@gmail.com

You can view our first digital issue here: https://issuu.com/residualbelievers/docs/residual_believers_issue_1

Colors

J. Mane Gallery invites submissions for its Colors online juried art exhibition.

Alongside the notes of the musical keyboard and the letters of the alphabet, colors provide the building blocks of our emotions. It is not for nothing that we say we are ‘feeling blue’ or ‘seeing red’. Each color is subtly connected to a web of experiences and associations. Some of these are highly idiosyncratic: a particular yellow might remind us of a long-dead grandmother’s kitchen or a pair of boots we had as children. But others carry more universal meanings. Exploring the associations we have around colors is a way to get to understand ourselves and, as importantly, gives us a way to tell others who we are.

Inspired by an Object

In 1964, Jasper Johns wrote himself a note: “Take an object. Do something to it. Do something else to it.” Since then, this set of instructions has referred to artwork that uses everyday objects and other non-fine art materials and describes the revolutionary approaches to art-making that developed from the early 20th century to the late 1950’s,1960’s, and beyond. For this exhibit, artists are invited to submit work in any medium and in any genre including abstract. However, an object must be used as the primary subject and inspiration of the work.
