GearBox Gallery is seeking new member

GearBox Gallery now has openings for artist members. Join us in showing your work, the work of your contemporaries, and fostering community and education through intellectual and cultural exchange focused on the visual arts. 

GearBox Gallery is an artist-run contemporary art gallery located at 770 W. Grand Ave, Oakland, directly below the well-established Transmission Gallery and across the street from Aggregate Space Gallery. GearBox is dedicated to showcasing the work of a broad range of regional contemporary guest artists alongside the work of member artists in a professional space. As a member of Oakland Art Murmur, we participate in the famous First Friday Art Walks and other OAM events. 

Member Artists collaborate in running the gallery, curating & installing exhibits, & P.R. activities. GearBox Artists are featured in an exhibit once a year, and are able to show their works along with other members 11 months out of the year. All members are expected to participate in ongoing operations, which include gallery-sitting, and serving on task committees such as installation or P.R. For these reasons, member artists must reside in the San Francisco Bay area.

Benefits of joining our Gallery:

• Exposure of your work: Member’s art on display in the gallery on an ongoing basis.
• Professional relationships:  with our members, other artists, curators, critics and gallerists from the Bay Area and beyond. GB members also host an “artshare” every other month in one of their studios.

• Educational activities, such as our recent Social Media Seminar.
• More independence and control: Without having to work through a dealer, GearBox artist-members may assume more independence in what they create and how the work is priced.
• Increased earning potential: GearBox Gallery’s commission on sold work is much less than the conventional galleries that often take 50%.  Gearbox’s commission is 20%, our artist’s retain 80% of a cash sale.
• Technical/business assistance: GearBox Gallery provides its members with opportunities to learn more about working with general business matters, such as obtaining insurance and accounting.

Thurs & Fri from12 noon - 6 pm,
Sat from 11 am - 5 pm
and the First Friday of every month 6 - 9 pm
