Statement :

Aili Markelius delves into the depths of the human psyche through her thought-provoking series, "What Happens In The Dark." With her camera as a tool, she approaches her fellow human beings as much as she seeks herself. The images captured in this series navigate the elusive realm that exists between reality and dreams, occasionally venturing into the realm of true nightmares.

This project finds its roots in Markelius' deep connection to the Nordic nature, which she employs as a symbolic representation of the diverse states of mind. Moreover, it serves as a poignant symbol, evoking a yearning for the timeless moments of childhood. The interplay between the human experience and the natural world resonates strongly throughout Markelius' work, illuminating the multifaceted aspects of our existence.

Your truth can be changed simply by the way you accept it. That's how fragile the truth for a human is.
