Southern Prize State Fellowships

Eligibility:

The South Arts State Fellowships and Southern Prize acknowledge, support, and celebrate the highest quality artistic work being created in the American South. The program is open to individual artists living in the South Arts region: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The group of nine State Fellows will be selected by a national jury, based on artistic excellence that reflects and represents the diversity of the region. These artists receive a State Fellowship, which provides an unrestricted award of $5,000 and inclusion in a touring exhibit. All State Fellows are then reviewed by another national jury to select the Southern Prize winner, who receives an additional $25,000 cash award and a two-week residency, and a Southern Prize Finalist who receives an additional $10,000 cash award. This program is open only to visual artists and will expand to other disciplines in the future.

South Arts is committed to practices and funding that create greater cultural equity, represent the diversity of our region, are inclusive of diverse voices and artistic expression, and are accessible to everyone. We encourage diverse applicants to submit, in particular artists of color. The application deadline is December 3, 2019. Guidelines and application information are available here.
