Bormida Gotica Staged Photography Art Residency

The Department of Art and Culture of the Alta Langa Cultural Park Association announces 5 positions for participation in the I Staged Photography Art Residency, which will take place in three phases, both online and face-to-face, in the municipality of Monesiglio, Italy from February 12 to 29, 2024. On-site phase - from Friday 16th to Tuesday 20th February 2024

The art residency for stage photography aims to enhance the Gothic and Late Gothic artistic work present in Valle Bormida through contemporary creation, creating a link between past and present, and providing a space for creation for emerging Italian and European artists.

Valle Bormida

The Bormida Gothic itinerary traces and reveals a rich and unexpected catalog of Gothic and Late Gothic painting in a very vast territory. For the first time, an in-depth documentary and multidisciplinary study is being carried out, involving two regions (Piedmont and Liguria), four provinces (Savona, Cuneo, Asti, and Alessandria), four dioceses (Savona, Alba, Mondovì, and Acqui Terme), and nineteen municipalities. A tourist and cultural journey that opens up new perspectives and highlights a new piece of our extraordinary Heritage.

The Department of Art and Culture of the Alta Langa Cultural Park Association announces 5 spots for participation in the I Staged Photography Art Residency, which will take place in three phases, both online and face-to-face, in the municipality of Monesiglio, Italy, from February 12th to 29th, 2024.

Details

There will be two categories for the 5 available spots:

1. National, through which 2 spots will be assigned to candidates born or residing in Italy.
2. International, where 3 spots will be assigned to candidates from Europe.

As part of the programme of the I Staged Photography Art Residency of the Associazione Parco Culturale Alta Langa, the artists in residence will have the task of producing at least one photographic work inspired by the frescoes of the Bormida Gotica Itinerary located in various castles, churches and chapels of the Bormida Valley, in the regions of Liguria and Piedmont.

The works produced will have to be of acceptable quality to be printed and displayed in an exhibition during the final event of the Bormida Gotica project in March.

Conditions

The call is open to students and graduates in Fine Arts or Photography and related subjects, as well as to all those who, through the submitted documentation, demonstrate to have a path or an artistic project focused on stage photography or painterly style.

To apply for this call, it is necessary to be 18 years old and have the ability to issue invoices.

The project is funded by the Compagnia Fondazione di San Paolo and for reporting purposes we are required to have receipts of expenses for this activity.

Deadline for submission

The final deadline for submitting applications and documentation is set at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 15, 2024.

Documentation received after this date will not be accepted.

Decision and Publication

The accepted applicants will be contacted through the same email provided in the application on Tuesday, January 16th, and their admission will be announced through the social networks of the Parco Culturale Alta Langa once their admission is formalized.

Formalization of registration

Those admitted will be contacted through the same email provided in the application on Tuesday, January 16, and will be posted through the Parco Culturale Alta Langa social networks once their admission is formalized.

Those selected must accept participation by responding to the admission confirmation email indicating again their full name and ID card or passport by Friday, January 19, 2024.

The place will be completely formalised once the participants send proof of purchase of tickets for the means of transport to reach Monesiglio on the dates indicated (flights will be reimbursed once the activity is over).

Lack of this confirmation will be understood by the organization as a waiver by the candidate and the substitute list will be used.

Provision

Participants in the I Staged Photography Art Residency will receive a provision that includes:

1. Registration fee
2. Contribution of 500 euros (tax included) for artistic production.
3. Support from the Department of Art and Culture of the Parco Culturale Alta Langa throughout the residency.
4. Round trip transportation for the participant from their place of residence in Italy or one of the European countries to Monesiglio.
5. Full board accommodation from Thursday 15 February to Tuesday 20 February 2024 - both days included. The programme will start on Friday 16 February at 12.00 noon and will end on 20 February at 18.00h.
6. Daily transportation to the locations of the frescoes on the Bormida Gothic Itinerary.
7. Transportation and accommodation to participate in the presentation of the photographs during the closing event of the Bormida Gothic project.

During the period of enjoying this provision, each selected person will have access to the material of the multidisciplinary studio on the historical, artistic, and architectural heritage of Valle Bormida, created by Ludovica Martina, as well as materials for the construction of sets, costumes, and props for the realization of the photographs during the on-site phase in Monesiglio, Italy.

Copyright and ownership of artworks

The association Parco Culturale Alta Langa reserves the right to use the images and works created during the residency in order to promote the Bormida Gotica project, future art residencies and events organized by the association, through online and print publication. Copyright of the images and any other rights remain with the participating photographers.

Recording and dissemination of images

The selected participants who agree to participate also accept the registration and dissemination of their image through paper or digital media, as well as the different social networks in which the institution participates.

Acceptance of the basis

Participation in the I Staged Photography Art Residency implies full acceptance of these bases.

The institution reserves the right to resolve, in the way it deems most appropriate, any situation not foreseen in them.
