Shine Emerging Artist Programme

The SHINE programme aims to nurture and develop new talent, giving artists the opportunity to exhibit or perform new work at 5 of the LUTN festivals (Light Night Leeds, Lightwaves at Salford Quays, Enchanted Parks in Gateshead, Light Up Lancaster and LightPool in Blackpool). Up to four artists or collectives will be awarded bursaries of up to £4,000 each to realise their new artwork. The artwork has to be suitable for a winter light festival, artistically challenging/interesting and of high quality, have a strong element of digital/technology within its design, and be resilient enough to withstand the winter weather at multiple festivals (September - December) and transportation across our festival network.

Bring Us Your Dead (Dia de los Muertos) 2018

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican holiday celebrated by many throughout Mexico and around the world. It is an ancient and enduring ritual in which the living commune with the dead – a mystical night when the veil is lifted between these two realms.

On The Day of the Dead, the lives of deceased loved ones are often commemorated by building altars or creating artwork and gathering around our offerings to share their stories. This is the intent and focus of our show this month.

Las Laguna Gallery is now accepting submissions of artwork commemorating or inspired by Dia de los Muertos. There are no restrictions on content, style, medium or context, but your entries should fit this theme, either traditionally or digitally, in some way.

Through the Lens (a Photography Exhibition)

CALL FOR ART:   Through the Lens (a Photography Exhibition)

DEADLINE: August 4th, 2018
SHOW DATE: September 6th - September 28th, 2018

We've all heard the saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” A photograph captures a particular moment in time - for eternity. It serves as a memory of a life experience, or perhaps an emotion one will never forget. Photography can inspire and even be interpretive. With technology, the art of photography has grown in ways we never imagined. We are seeking unique photographic works from artists like you.

In Light Of, Photography Competition

The phrase "in light of" means to take into account or consideration. This contest asks photographers to think about how light is seen and used in the photographic process.  Ambient, dramatic, directional, movement can make or break capturing a moment or object. Show us your best use of light!

Interventions: Cayetano Ferrer

This site-specific installation reveals the artist’s ongoing investigation into what he calls object prosthetics—the reconstruction of broken remains using a variety of conceptual and technological methods. Ferrer is interested in architectural fragments—as both objects and as ideas. His Composite series of sculpture is made by filling in pieces of marble or stone with digitally printed PVC that acts as a stand-in for what is perceived as “missing.” What results is a reimagining that can be considered both authentic as well as speculative.
