Art in the Plague Year: An Invitation to Exhibit

We are now engaged with history. In a fog of uncertainty, this alone is clear: history tells us pandemics trigger periods of change. They lay bare social inequities, racial rifts, and economic injustices. They contain the seeds of new futures.

EXHIBITION CONCEPT  
We are interested in what will emerge from this year of plague, protest, and reappraisal, and this is the subject of this exhibition. Artists have already sharply observed the immediate moment. This exhibition has a different scope. We are after art that is far-seeing and speculative. We welcome the allusive, even the prophetic. 
 

EXHIBITION DETAILS 
This virtual exhibition will have a dedicated website carefully designed by the curators and will include images, as well as artwork details and interpretative texts. The exhibition will also be featured on UCR ARTS/California Museum of Photography's main website along with a decades-long archive of remarkable exhibitions. To greet a new future, it will launch on Saturday, January 2, 2021.

OPEN CALL 
Artists and creators from all over the world; emerging, established or in-between, all are welcome to apply. There is no cost, no risk, no peril. As curators, we feel that people arrive at our door carrying their hard-won treasures. We promise to treat art with kindness, courtesy, and the deepest attention. Media and Limitations
Photographs, text, video, audio. We're a photography museum, but images crossbreed shamelessly and we'll consider almost anything. We're omnivorous. Selection for exhibition is subject to customary curatorial criteria. 

Please do NOT mail us any printed materials. Artwork must be submitted digitally and suitable for virtual presentation.
