Show your artwork at Float On and try our float tanks
Category:
Artistic field:
Eligibility:
Float On is resuming our art program and seeking to feature new artists for October and beyond.
This is a great opportunity for any artist in the Portland area of experience level who’s curious about float tanks (also referred to as sensory deprivation, or sensory isolation tanks) and would like to experience it first hand.
Participating artists will have their work exhibited at Float On and will receive credits for two free floats available to them immediately.
Want more than two floats? Float On keeps a collection of float inspired artwork. If you would like to contribute to our collection, we can offer you two additional floats for your art piece. The artwork you submit to our collection doesn’t necessarily need to be float themed, however, we'd like to see work that was created during the period of time you were floating. We will feature the float piece as part of your exhibition, so it would need to be completed prior to your art drop off date.
FAQ:
How many pieces should I bring?
Around 15. This is flexible, and if your work is on the smaller side (smaller than a standard 8x11 sheet of paper) we can fit up to 20.
Do I need to bring anything to hang my art?
Nope! Simply bring in your artwork, prepared to install, and any title/price cards you’d like displayed on your scheduled drop off day. You’ll chat with the gallery director, who will set up your work for you.
How should my work be prepared for installation?
Float On uses a hook wire system. This means your work must be prepared with a horizontal wire in the back, or a loop with a diameter of at least ½”. Please, no sawtooth hangers.
Any hardware must be secured in place using screws or nails. Glue or tape will not hold due to the fluctuation of humidity at our center. We cannot accept artwork if it is not properly prepared because we don't want to risk damage to your art! If you have any questions or concerns about best practices or gallery hardware, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our gallery director Clypto@floathq.com.
How do art sales work?
If you would like to sell your work, Float On can handle sales on your behalf. Float On takes a 5% commission for any works sold through our system. This covers the cost of credit card processing fees and the like. Purchased artwork remains on display for the duration of the month, and buyers can pick up their work from Float On after the exhibition. You will receive a check for any work sold when you come to pick up your work after your show.
Alternatively, if you prefer to handle sales yourself just let us know and be sure to include your contact information on your title/sales card and we will refer prospective buyers to you directly.
Will my free floats ever expire?
They will not! You can use them at your leisure.
How many artists will be featured?
This is a solo exhibition. It's very important to us that if selected you can commit to showing work with us. We really appreciate it. :)
Who can I contact if I have more questions about float tanks or the art program?
Clypto would be happy to answer any questions about either floating or the art program. Contact her by emailing Clypto@floathq.com If you'd like to learn more about floating in general, you can read more about it online at Floathq.com.
