Both Sides Now with Natalie McCool

We’re looking for talented female singers, songwriters and instrumentalists aged 13-18 to take part in an exciting week-long music project in Liverpool in May (Mon 28 May – Fri 1 Jun).

Led by the incredible Natalie McCool, you’ll work together to create new music and perform live at the British Music Experience.

This is a unique opportunity to develop your songwriting and performance skills in a fun and supportive environment.

You will:

• Spend 5 days (Mon 28 May – Fri 1 Jun) working with professional artists Natalie McCool, drummer Sian Monaghan (She Drew The Gun) and singer-songwriter Chloe Foy
• Collaborate with other young musicians to create new music inspired by the story of British music, and the collection of instruments, costumes and performance memorabilia at the British Music Experience in Liverpool
• Perform what you’ve created together in a special public performance at the museum on Fri 1 Jun

To take part you must be:

• Female, or identity as female
• Aged 13-18
• From or based in Merseyside
• A singer, songwriter or instrumentalist
• Available between Mon 28 May – Fri 1 Jun

About Natalie McCool

Natalie McCool first came to public attention for winning a national songwriting competition judged by Coldplay’s Chris Martin. Since then she has written with Paul McCartney, performed with Boy George and collaborated with Beth Orton.

“I remember being a curious 14 year old deeply into music. I was constantly looking for opportunities around me; whether that was writing with other musicians my age, performing live in bands or playing guitar and singing in different projects – I had a real thirst for music. That’s why I am hugely excited to lead this residency exclusively for young female singers, songwriters and instrumentalists; a fantastic way to develop creative ideas, work with other musicians, perform live and above all: have fun!” 

This residency is part of Both Sides Now – our initiative to support, inspire and showcase female music creators across the North of England.
