OPEN CALL for the VI edition of the International Bad Video Art Festival

We are looking for videos which are at the intersection of bad art, bad painting and bad cinema. We propose to study extreme forms of video art and single out certain video art works as bad videos or “B-videos”. Join us if you are interested in the issue of quality and boundaries of art.

The International Bad Video Art Festival (BVAF) is an independent artist-run initiative.  It has been held since 2017. Last year, the war broke out in Ukraine. And we decided not to hold the Festival. We postponed it until peacetime. But the war is dragging on. Time moves on, and it is clear that neither side is capable of making a decisive breakthrough in the near term. So the future seems bleak to us. Sooner or later someone will win or lose. But what will the world be like after the war?

We don't urge you to reflect on this or make a work about the war in Ukraine, or in any of the 32 countries embroiled in armed conflicts. There are probably enough works like that. But you surely can if you wish. You can show anything, except good works.

So submit videos you consider bad in 2023. We are open to artists from all over the world. Although art is inappropriate now, it still unites us all. Especially bad art. Because it corresponds to the current historical moment. This year, the International Bad Video Art Festival will take place in Tbilisi (Georgia), May 12-13. Besides, there will be an online screening for everyone, May 12-21.
