OPEN CALL FOR “MIGRATIONS” EXHIBITION at the WMA

Humanity has always been on the move. Some people are escaping conflicts, war zones, regime, utter devastation. Others are forced to move because of drought or floods caused by climate change, natural disasters, or other environmental factors. There are people who are escaping poverty who then turn into economic migrants, looking to support their families, provide ‘a better life’ for themselves.

Some others flee because of their sexual orientation that is not accepted in their home country. There are people who attend universities or schools abroad. Some people migrate to observe and learn about unknown tribes or animal species. Finally, there are also migrants who want to immerse themselves in a different culture, looking for more understanding of the world or their own minds, they move for pleasure.

Our moves are accompanied by animals’ migrations. There are the natural ones, that happen every season at a specific time, but there are also forced migrations that are caused by climate change and human interference.

At our exhibition “Migrations” at the Wirtualne Muzeum Antropocenu (Virtual Museum of the Anthropocene) we would like to look at migration in the age of the Anthropocene in a more complex way. What does it really mean to be a migrant? How does it feel to migrate because of many different reasons? Is migration a good option for everyone who embarks on that journey? How are the animals which are forced to migrate coping with changes in nature?

We invite artists - regardless of background, education, and nationality to submit works to our exhibition on the different aspects of human and animal migration.

You are welcome to submit digital works, photographs, collage, poetry, short essays (max. 500 words), video, performative or sound works.

Guidelines:

Submit 2 images/text work/other

Images must be .jpg at least 1200 pixels on the widest side and good quality

Images must be cropped/properly edited before uploading

Images must be labelled (Lastname_first_title.jpg)

Text must be in docx or pdf and follow (Lastname_First_title.pdf/.docx)

All other artworks must be clearly labelled with full name and title

The maximum size for all files combined is 200MB
