OPEN CALL FOR NYC FILMMAKERS

El Sotano Art Space invites NYC filmmakers to send their work to be shown in our summer show “Queer Revolutions, The Body as Terrain for Insurrection”.

This open call is directed towards queer artist of all walks of life that live in NYC. We are looking for works that address queer issues related to riots, revolutions, manifestations and revolts. These riots can be actual riots (such as StoneWall or the Compton Cafeteria Riots) or revolutions that begin within oneself. The revolution begins in our own body and our own corporalities.

Considering the first terrain that we inhabit to be our bodies and from this point all actions that seek revolution and to revolt part from. Thinking of the body as a place where one inhabits and insurrection permeates, the body acts as a terrain where resistance leaves its mark.

The purpose of this exhibition is to vocalize and show the different ways in which queer communities and queer individuals enact resistance, revolution and rebellion; from their own corporality, individual and community actions, materialities and performativity. Thinking of queer Revolutions as something that starts in the viscera, sweats through the skin and filters into the streets.
