Studio Montclair seeks entries for “The Life & Culture of Modern Day Latinidad”, a collaboration with Latinos of Montclair at the Studio Montclair Gallery located in the heart of Montclair from November 10 – December 22, 2023.
The exhibition, “The Life & Culture of Modern Day Latinidad”, is seeking submissions from artists whose work reflects a celebration of today’s expression of a multicultural community highlighting its diverse tapestry of backgrounds, stories and experiences.
Juror: José Camacho, award winning artist
José Camacho was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He attended the University Sagrado Corazón and the Art League in his home country and, after moving to New Jersey at age 19, enrolled at Montclair State University from which he received a BA degree. He studied painting and drawing with Miriam Beerman, Carmen Cicero and philosophies of art with Jonathan Silver. While in college, Mr. Camacho assisted Puerto Rican artist, Antonio Martorell, at the installation of La Casa de Todos Nosotros at El Museo del Barrio, and also at the installation of El Zócalo del Silencio at the University of Puerto Rico. Mr. Camacho is the recipient of various awards including a Residency Fellowship at the Rutgers Center for Innovative Print and Paper in 2006, and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship in 2008. His work has been included in many exhibitions in museums as well as private galleries and is in numerous private art collections.

Artists may submit a maximum of 3 pieces of work (1 jpg images per piece).
All media accepted including videos and installations.
Work must have been completed within the past 5 years. Work previously shown in any SMI exhibition will not be accepted.
Three views of 3D work will be accepted.
For JPEG file format images. Files should be a minimum size of 1600 pixels on the longest side. We will accept lower resolution images, but please note that those images cannot be used for publicity and will display poorly in the exhibit catalog. Digital images should be cropped to show only your artwork. If edges are irregular, it is best to photograph against a black background.
Submit work that will be available for the duration of the exhibition. No substitutions will be accepted after selections are finalized.
No giclée reproductions of original art accepted.
Specifications:
2D work: Maximum 5 feet in any direction including frame not to exceed 30 lbs. Wall-hung art must be properly wired for hanging, no saw-tooth hangers.
3D work: Maximum 3 feet in any direction.
3D wall work: Maximum 3 feet in any direction. MAXIMUM 12 inch depth, not to exceed 30 lbs.
Video: mov, mp4, and wmv files will be accepted up to 500Mb.
Floor installation: Maximum 36x36x72 inches high, not to exceed 100 lbs
Studio Montclair has a limited number of monitors and pedestals. Electronic and digital works must be ready to show - artists should be ready to provide all components. Artists must be able to supply their own pedestals, if necessary.
NO ceiling hung work. Work not conforming to the submission requirements will be rejected.
Liability: Studio Montclair does not provide insurance for theft, loss or damage of artwork while the artwork is in transit or while on display at its venues. All artists should have their work insured if they feel it necessary. Studio Montclair will make every possible effort to handle all artwork with care and respect.
Sales: A 40% donation will be retained by SMI on all sales. Works available for sale will be sold at the price indicated on the entry form. No changes in price will be permitted upon acceptance. Works not for sale should be listed NFS and include an insurance value.
Usage of Images: Studio Montclair and Latinos of Montclair reserve the right to photograph and use accepted work for documentation, website, publicity, social media or catalog purposes.

Latinos of Montclair is a grassroots organization of Latinos in the Montclair area uniting the Latino community to promote greater visibility, celebrate cultural diversity, and encourage civic engagement.
