quiet as it's kept

quiet as it’s kept is an exhibition of Black art of exceptional quality that explores the depths of the Black experience and reveals its complex roots. From landscapes to surrealism, from digital art to sculpture, from traditional to innovative — this show will demonstrate that Black art is as unique as Black people. We are healing by recognizing ourselves as art, as worthy of art, and as part of a global system of indelible artistic experience. Black people have always had a place in the art world, but the magic of our practice is only as quiet as we keep it. For this exhibition, we are quiet no more. 

The exhibition is the next of our youth-led juried exhibitions at the Trolley Barn Gallery on Main Street in Poughkeepsie but this exhibition will feature invited mid-career artists in addition to our usual international artist call for art. This means that international emerging Black artists will have the opportunity to exhibit next to talented recognizable painters, sculptors and installation artists. quiet as it’s kept introduces these established artists to an untapped network of up and coming Black art lovers and buyers who are motivated to keep the conversation about Black art growing. 

Submissions are limited to national and international BIPOC artists of all ages. Artists will be notified approximately 2–3 weeks after the deadline by email about the selection status of their entries. 

quiet as it’s kept will be on view from October 6 through November 10, 2023, at The Art Effect's Trolley Barn Gallery, 489 Main St., Poughkeepsie, New York. An opening reception will take place on Friday, October 6 from 6 pm to 8 pm.
