fluctoplasma is Hamburg's festival for a diverse urban society and is entering its fifth year in 2024: From October 24th to 27th, we invite you to join us in shaping a new edition and celebrating our first anniversary together! This year, our festival is themed "recharge resistance," and we call upon you to engage politically and fight for our shared coexistence!

In a year marked by European elections, important state elections in various German states, as well as racist, antidemocratic master plans, and the gradual erosion of our societal cohesion, a disturbing trend becomes increasingly clear: the rise of right-wing and antidemocratic forces, which are expected to deeply embed themselves in the fabric of our parliamentary democracy and civil society.

Furthermore, the societal debate on how to best organize and execute resistance against right-wing ideologies leads to divisions within the movements. These debates about the "right" path reflect the diversity of perspectives but often result in losing sight of the common goal: a society that clearly opposes racism, antisemitism, and any form of discrimination.

Faced with this reality, we stand at a crossroad with fundamental questions that will shape our collective vision for the future: How do we fight for our pluralistic society, and what attractive alternatives do we offer to hate and incitement? In what ways can we openly and constructively address societal tensions and challenges, and how do we develop an unwavering resilience against the forces undermining our democracy?

For 2024, fluctoplasma thus calls out: "recharge resistance!"

Under this motto, we want to gather people who inspire us and create spaces where we can recharge new energies and celebrate the feeling of community. At the same time, we want to welcome artists and collectives who passionately advocate for the freedom of art while grappling with the responsibility that comes with this freedom. We aim to break the boundaries of individual perspectives and interests while creating a space for exchange and connection — for a society shaped collectively by all of us in its diversity and complexity.

For our fifth anniversary, we are therefore seeking artists and thinkers who want to transcend boundaries or build bridges; we are looking for people who advocate for an intersectional, solidarity-based society; collaborators who explore the future, present, and past on aesthetic, discursive, and emotional levels. Our festival seeks a diverse spectrum of perspectives and positions, voices that challenge our everyday lives and daily coexistence.

Can your songs, performances, artworks, and discourses strengthen the resilience of our society? Do you have ideas for a spa of the many that provide strength for the struggles of the future? Our festival team is looking forward to it! We want to bring your thoughts to the stage, carry your powerful pleas and visionary futurisms into the city! Applications from every artistic field are welcome.

Note on transparency: fluctoplasma is a festival of the independent scene and is funded through public grants from the Department for Culture and Media as well as various other funding sources. For determining the fees, we adhere to the recommendations of the BFDK regarding fee minimums. We plan to allocate an honorarium of approximately €350.00 gross per artistic contribution or artist. Unfortunately, we cannot cover production or rehearsal costs. Upon agreement, support for the transportation of artworks or props is possible. For a limited number of people, we can finance travel with up to two nights' accommodation.
