CALL FOR DIGITAL ARTIST: HABITAT 3000

Habitat 3000 is a virtual reality exhibition of interactive ecosystems launched by Las Maleantes. 

Humankind has always searched for perspectives and visions of the future, but through current developments the desire to envision a positive future has become ever more urgent. H. 3000, represents different ideas and visions of futures that show us new possibilities of co-creation and allows us to start dreaming about what is possible again. Ecosystems are adapting and changing daily. How would they recalibrate under fast changing global conditions? What would plants and animals sound and look like? And what types of new coalitions could be formed amongst them? What would be the role of technologies and how would they interact with the organic world? What would be the colors, forms, and textures of the future? 

The proposed metaverses should come to life through forms of gamification, immersion and interaction chosen by the participating artists.  By juxtaposing different landscapes and ideas, Habitat 3000 aims to overcome the apocalyptic vision of the future that is omnipresent in today’s society.  

From the applicants, Las Maleantes chooses two digital artists or artistic groups to collaborate with. The team around Las Maleantes, working as curator, designs the infrastructure of the virtual reality environment, and organizes where each artist exhibits their work. In addition, Las Maleantes designs one part of the environment themselves and links all contributions together in a coherent narrative that follows the project’s overall concept. Additionally, Las Maleantes provides assistance in technical questions and concerns.

Applicants have to send their proposals until 06.03.2023. The shortlist will be announced in March 2023 and the project presentation will be by mid April.
